Todays class
Today in class we didn't do much other than the people who didn't finish their three maps paper, I finished my map papers in class yesterday which was very convenient, and for the rest of the people we got to do our homework in class so we didn't have to do it tonight so I got to do my blog which is this. This is also very convenient because I have volleyball practice after school so this is good that I get to finish this and my English homework if Mr. Schick lets me go to my locker. I really don't know what else to say because nothing happened in class today so yeah, but there is only ten more minutes left in class so yay! I don't have this class tomorrow, but I am excited to see what I got on my test from I think last week in this class.

Longitude and Latitude
Contemporary mapping-
- Shift from simply a tool that provides location reference to a tool used by geographers to communicate complex geographic phenomenona
- Scientific method of transferring locations on Earth's surfaces to a flat map is called projection
- Earth's spherical shape causes distortion when drawing it on a flat piece of paper
- Shape of an area can be distorted
- Distance between points may become increased or decreased
- Relative size different areas can be altered
- Direction between points can be distorted
- Geographic grids system of imaginary areas drawn in a grid pattern on Earth's surface
- Meridians are areas drawn between the North and South poles. Each is numbered according to a system known a longitude
- Values range from 0 degrees(prime meridian) to 180 degrees east or west longitude
- Parallels are areas drawn parallel to the equator and at right angles to meridians. Each in numbered according to a system known as latitude
- Values range from 0 degrees(equator) to 90 degrees north to south
- Earth as a sphere is divided into 360 degrees of longitude
- Divide 360 degrees by 24 times zones(one for each hour of day) equals 15 degrees
- Each 15 degrees band of longitude is assigned to a standard time zone

Maps
Today in class we learnt about how maps are a whole lie! We watched a video saying that said something about how Germany is actually fourteen times smaller than Africa but on the map the two are almost the same size. The video went onto talking about turning that map upside down so south is north, north is south, east is west, and west is east. If the map would it actually change to be like that I don't know how I would feel about it. At first it would probably be really confusing to understand but I would eventually probably be able to figure it out.
Some notes I took:
Some notes I took:
- First world map prepares by Eratosthenes (276-194 BC)
- Improvements to world map later made by Ptolemy
- After Ptolemy, advancements in cartography, primarily made outside of Europe by Chinese and Islamic world
- Map making revived during the Age of Exploration and Discovery

- Why is each point on Earth unique?
- Why are different places similar?
- Why re some human actions not sustainable?
- 1.1.1: Explain different maps and contemporary maps.
- 1.1.2: Describe the role of map scale and projections and making maps. cartography.
- 1.1.3: Explain how latitude and longitude are used to locate points on Earth's surface
- Geography is the study of where things are found on Earth's surface and the reasons for the locations
- Human geographers ask two simple questions.....
- Where are people and activities found on Earth?
- Why are the found there?
- A map is a two-dimensional of flat-scale model of Earth's surface, or a portion of it
- Cartography is the science of map making
- Maps serve two purposes....
- As a reference tool to identify an objects absolute and relative location.
- As a communications tool to convey the distribution of human activities or physical features
- Early maps were reference tools- simple navigation devices to show aa traveler how to get from point A to point B

First Test!!!
Today in human Geography we had our first test today and I personally thought that it went pretty well. I studied last night for like an hour last night and I used quizlet last night to help me with the vocabulary part of the test and I think that I did very good with that part. With the multiple choice part I think that I did good with that except for the one where it was asking about polis. The essay part was easy I think I'm pretty sure that I did good but I don't know and I was able to complete it all on one page but I did two rows of words per linesmen it go towards the end because I knew that I was going to run out of space. I did the essay where it was asking about the events of the trial and death of Socrates. This test was about about Elbert Hubbard, A Message to Garcia, Greek, and Socrates.

A Message to Garcia
A message to Garcia is written by Elbert Hubbard in 1899. This essay is about a man named Rowan who was told to deliver a letter to Garcia from the president, Rowan was able to do this task without asking any questions or complaining about it at all. That was just the first part of the essay the story goes on to talk about how many people would be able to do things like this or even simpler tasks. I agree with what Elbert Hubbard is trying to say because there are many people to this day who don't want to do simple tasks for a boss an elder or someone they know. People today are very lazy and don't want to do anything but be on their phones or play video games, and most people today if they had an assignment in school they would do it but they wouldn't give it their best. So I do agree with what Elbert Hubbard was saying in this essay and I find his essay very inspirational.

My First Day At John Carroll
My first day at John Carroll was very exciting because it was a new experience for me. My day started off pretty good I was able to get my locker open easily, but I had a little hard remembering where all of my classes were. I really enjoyed my free period because I got to have some time off and sit with my friends, I didn't have any homework then but when I do have homework that will be a good time to do it. I got out of my last class early which was Intro to Bible because I had a volleyball game at Maryvale. I am on the JV team and we won and we watched varsity and unfortunately varsity did not win but the game was fun to watch. My second day of school was a little bit easier because I now am a little more familiar with how everything works. Overall, my JC experience has been very good.
