- We use population pyramids to analyze growth(or decline) of fertility, mortality, and migration in cities...
- In population pyramids male always go on the left
- Population is 5 year age bands
- Three basic shapes when using population the Christmas tree, the box, and the cup
- The Christmas tree is for developing nations, growth rates are slow, high birth rate, and short life expectancy
- The box is for developed nations; slow growth, low infant mortality, slow population growth, long life expectancy
- The cup is for developed nations; negative growth, low birth rate, shrinking population, and long life expectancy

Blogs
Today in class we talked about our grades and talked about the assignment this weekend which was the Factbook blog where we had to go on the website and find five different facts and write a brief summary about it, some people did not do it and some just typed down the facts ad didn't do the summary about it. We also talked about the semester exam. And we did not have much of a class other than figuring out our grades and working out our blogs and then I started typing my blog. But I have done all of my blogs so far except one but it was form the weekend of homecoming and I did not have the time to do my blog. For the assignment over the weekend I totally forgot about it so at like ten pm on Saturday night so I was freaking out about it but I got a ten out of ten on it so it's all good.

Factbook
- One thing that I found interesting about the US is Population distribution. There's large urban clusters that are spread throughout the eastern half of the US, the prairie states are less densely populated,Alaska's population is concentrated along its southern coast, and Hawaii's is centered on the land of Oahu.
- Another thing that I found interesting is the population and ethnicity of the US there is currently about 326,625,791 (July 2017 est.), the different ethnicities are white 72.4%, black 12.6%, Asian 4.8%, Amerindian and Alaska native 0.9%, native Hawaiian and other Pacific islander 0.2%, other 6.2%, two or more races 2.9% (2010 est.), and there is a separate list for Hispanics because Hispanics can be of different origins.
- Another thing I found interesting was the different religions here in the US. There is a wide variety of religion which is a pull factor because there is freedom of religion. Protestant 46.5%, Roman Catholic 20.8%, Jewish 1.9%, Mormon 1.6%, other Christian 0.9%, Muslim 0.9%, Jehovah's Witness 0.8%, Buddhist 0.7%, Hindu 0.7%, other 1.8%, unaffiliated 22.8%, don't know/refused 0.6% (2014 est.).
- Something else that was fascinating was the internet users which is 246,809,221, which is most of the population of the country, 76.2% (July 2016 est.). And on the country comparison to the world the United States is number 4.
- Another thing that was interesting to me was about the Government. The Capital, which is Washington, DC, from last unit we learned about the maps so I sort of understood the geographic coordinates, 38 53 N, 77 02 W. And the Executive branch chief of branch, President Donald J. TRUMP, head of government, which is also President Donald J. TRUMP, and the cabinet, Cabinet appointed by the president, approved by the Senate.

More Measurement of Population
In the beginning of class we got our tests back which was about maps and then we went over it to better understand what we got wrong.
Today in class we talked about migration. We talked about the push factors and pull factors. Some notes that we took today were...
More Measurement of Population
- Net Migration Rate: the difference between the number of persons entering and leaving a country during a year
- an excess of persons entering the country is net immigration
- written as a positive number
- example: Canada has 5.65 migrants per 1000 population
- U.S. 2.45 (it was 3.62 in 2015)
- an excess of person leaving the country is net emigration
- written as a negative number
- example: Mexico has- 1.68 migrants per 100 population, -3.61 two years ago, -3.11 last year
Why do people migrant?
Push forces
- civil war
- environmental degradation
- unemployment or underemployment
- religious or ethnic persecution
Pull forces
- better economic opportunity
- better health services
- religious freedom
- political freedom

Population and Settlement part 2
Today in class we talked about life expectancy and how woman live longer than men for reasons like when men get hurt or sick they play it tough and don't worry about it woman do and will go to the doctors and get proper care. Men also have more dangerous jobs than woman and men are more reckless than woman. We also took some notes in class which are.....
Life Expectancy
Life Expectancy
- the average number of years to be lives by a group of people born in the same year
High: Monaco (89.52 total: 85.63 men, 93.58 woman)
United States: (79.68 men, 81.97 woman)
Low: Chad (49.81 men, 51.03 woman)
Potable Water- safe to drink
Measuring Population-
- Crude birth rate: number of births per 1000 of the population
- Crude death rate: number of deaths per 1000 of the population
- rate of natural increase (RNI)
- produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate
- this gives us the annual natural growth rate- in percentage form- for a country or region

Population and Settlement
Some notes that we took in the beginning of class were...
More People than ever!
More People than ever!
- Over 7.5 billion people on the planet right now
- Increasing by over 73 billion per year
- 8377 per hour
- 2.5 per second
- 90% of this population growth takes place in the developing countries of Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America
For the rest of class we talked about how the growth of the earths population is not good because there will be too many people in so many years that supplies and resources will become limited. We also talked about how in many countries and places there isn't clean water, like in Haite there isn't clean water so they drink dirty water which causes disease. Jason also talked in class a lot about China because it is the most populated country in the world so he talked about how many kids a family can have and if you have a girl then you can try again to try to have a boy. And then we talked more about how the increase of the population can change the world.

Todays test
Today in class we took a quiz on maps and the stuff on the maps and about maps. An I think for the most part it was pretty easy because I studied all of the terms and read my notes in my notebook a couple of times. I think I did pretty good on the time zones part but that might just be because we got to use our maps that showed the time zones but it was still good. I think the first part of the test went well but the latitude and longitude parts I am not so sure about. I really want to know what I got because my grade is a low A and I want to get it up or keep it how it is. But after everyone finished the test we got to do our blogs so that is what I am doing right now and then I will try to do the rest of my homework but we only have about fifteen minutes left of class.

Review for Fridays test
Today in class we reviewed for the test that we are going to have this Friday. We mostly reviewed time zones, which at first I was confused about the time zones but now that we reviewed it again I am understanding it more. But a good thing is, is that we get to use our maps for the test which is good because it shows the different time zones on the map. We also review the different terms that will be on the test and how the test will be organized. Some of the things that the have to remember are cartography, the international date line, scale the four types of distortion, which are shape, distance between points, size, and direction between points. Overall I think that I will do pretty good on this test I just have to study because there are some things that I am not sure how to figure out so I will just have to study.

Todays discussion
Today in class we talked about...
- Culture is the body of customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people.
But within that we mainly talked about the tradition part and some events, holidays, or celebrations that we have that define our culture. One of our examples was 9/11 and it changed our security like when you go to the airport, football games, baseball games, and other sporting events. We also talked about laws and about murder, manslaughter and the different degrees of murder. We talked about the differences between them and we used examples like a car crash and we mainly just used that. We also talked about I forget the word but it means that if your whole family approves and you are dying of a disease that you know you won't recover from and you are in pain your doctor can give you a drug that will kill you but it is only legal in a few places. We also talked about cremation and how catholics do not believe in it they believe that you should be buried in one and all together.

Review for test Friday
Today in class we did a review on what we have learned so far in this unit because next Friday we will be having a test. The last test I did pretty good on so hopefully I do good on this one too. We talked about Erastothenes, Ptomely, Chinese/ Islamic, Europeans, Age of Exploration, and discovery. We also went over a some of the terms that we took notes on and I had all of them because I take all the notes even the ones that we don't really need, just because it makes me feel more prepared and have all that I need when it comes time for a test. And at the end of class Mr. Schick called on a girl to say what 3 cities are that come from someones name in order for us to be able to leave class at the end. Anyway, today was a good day to be able to review our notes to be prepared for Fridays test.

Notes from today
In the beginning of class we talked about dogs and how Mr. Schicks dog was sick but is getting better which led onto everyone talking about their dogs and other dogs. We also saw a picture of Mr. Schicks dogs, he also told us the story of how he got the dog and and it made me very sad because his dog got really hurt and is still messed up to this day and it has been a little over 10 years. And then we went off that subject and started to take notes...
Regions of Culture-
Regions of Culture-
- Culture is the body of customary beliefs, material trait and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people
- Origin of word, culture, is the Latin cultus, which mean "to care for."
- To care about
- To care of
Regions of culture-
- Geographers study both definitions of culture
- Culture: what people care about
- Geographers study why customary ideas, beliefs, and values of a people produce a distinctive culture in a particular place
- Especially importance cultural values derive a group's language, religion, and ethnicity
- Culture: what people take care of
- The second element of culture interest is production of material wealth, such as food, clothing, and shelter that humans need in order to survive and to rise
- Why are different places similar?
- Scale is the relationship between the portion of the earths beings studied and earth as a whole
- Globalization is a force or process that involves the entire world and revolves in making something worldwide in scale

Pop Quiz
Today in class we took a pop quiz which I did not feel ready for at all. So Mr. Schick told us that there is ten questions and for each question he will read the question and then he will read the multiple choice answers and we get 15 seconds to answer and you can't go back to a question and you can't get anymore time then given. I didn't like that we had only a little time because I couldn't really process it and it stressed me out. I got a five out of ten on it which isn't awful but I Ould have gotten better but its okay, I will be more prepared for the next pop quiz. After we took the quiz and turned it in we got to review the answers so I know what I got wrong and what I got right, so when we were going over the answers I knew that I knew the right answers I just didn't have enough time to go over it.

Test
Today in class we got our tests back from when we were learning about Athens, Socrates, and a Message to Garcia. He also told us that if we got an A or higher he will ring a bell once and if you get a perfect score you get two dings. On this test I got a ninety-six percent which is pretty good I think, so I a ding, and on the essay portion of the test I got a forty out of forty which is good because I am really bad at writing essays so I was proud, I included a lot of information in the essay so that is good. After we got our tests back we went over the test so that people know what they got wrong and I got the idiot question wrong. We also went over the essays and we talked about what information people had. And then we finished everything so we got to write our blogs and that is it.
